Hello everyone I’m here with a crazy project that I have been working on. It’s a 4 foot by 4 foot table that is suspended above another 4 by 4 table! So the main idea was to make a board that would look interesting upside down. This was also the main challenge. Getting to work on the foam with a hot wire cutter and some paint it can really pop.
The 4×4 that is on top is 2 inch thick rigid insulation with a 1 foot by 1 foot section removed in the centre for the stand that I will build to hold up the table. The actual top side is a 1/4 inch thick 4×4 peace of hardboard. This was glued to the foam with construction adhesive and 4 holes drilled in top so I could thread bolts in just for added security.
Now my first try at making the centre stand wasn’t the prettiest thing by any means. It looked way to bulky for my taste. So I go to work with some mdf (medium density fibreboard) to make the new stand. I like mdf because it is a little on the heavy side and it finishes clean.
Now because I like over kill I also decided to put some nice lights on the table so that you get this very underground sort of feel from the table. Now my fist set of lights where some old out door string lights with Edison bulbs. But the lights where just too big and didn’t give off enough light. So I went with some smaller LED string lights and cut new supports for them as well.
Well that’s all for now I hope to have the bottom 4×4 done in the next few weeks as well as starting on the top pieces of terrain. It’s still got a long way to go!
